About The Bute Woodspoiler
I'm Tim, the woodturner behind The Bute Woodspoiler, working from a small workshop in Rothesay on the Isle of Bute.
I specialise in making bespoke pepper and salt mills., as well as lots of other items for your kitchen.
Everyone knows salt and pepper are staples in every kitchen. They’re the go-to seasonings for practically every dish, from your morning eggs to your dinner steak.
But here’s the thing: when you grind them fresh, they taste so much better.
Freshly ground salt and pepper bring out richer, more vibrant flavours that pre-ground versions just can’t match.
Every piece is turned by hand, with care taken over the feel in the hand as much as the look on the table.
Most of the timber I use is Scottish hardwood, often locally sourced, with each knot and ripple shaping the final form.
Bespoke commissions in wood
If you have an idea for a special piece – from club trophies and awards to personalised gifts, whisky stands or replacement trophy bases – I can work with you to design and turn something just for you.
Commissions can include laser-engraved & or hand-pyrographed details, logos or names, and I am happy to talk through options, timings and budgets.
Sustainable Scottish hardwoods
Wherever possible I use sustainable Scottish hardwoods such as oak, elm, sycamore and ash, along with selected European timbers when they suit the piece.
I also enjoy giving recycled and reclaimed timbers a second life, letting old beams, boards and offcuts become something useful and beautiful again.
